i'm in a room. it's oppressively hot. over 100 degrees. my muscles are tensed. my heart is pounding. sweat is pouring off me. sounds like torture? kinda. hot as hell? hell, yeah! and, i paid for this. (am i crazy?)

welcome to hot yoga. ok, it's not nearly as bad as my intro sounds, but it is hot. damn hot. this past week was my first-ever hot yoga (a.k.a. bikram yoga) class. and it was, well, hot. usually i lean towards flowing yoga - like vinyasa - where you fluidly transition through poses with moments of hold. hot yoga is much more structured. it's a series of 26 asanas or poses - all of which you do exactly 2x. it's about the hold - not the flow. and sinking into the heat (of the room & the burn in your muscles).

it was...interesting. i definitely will go to another class sometime, but i'm not a convert yet. i still love my lovely flowing yoga : )
have you tried (or would you try) hot yoga?

I love yoga...I'm definitely more of a yoga kind of girl than any other type of exercise. (Running? Uh, who does that?)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried bikram yet, but I've been seeing so many posts about it, I think I may have to try it soon...
Hope you have a fantastic weekend my dear!
xoxoxo,
Joelle
I start my very first yoga class this Sunday. It's a beginner's class (not exactly bikram, hehe) but I'm excited to try it out!

i was obsessed with hot yoga for 2 years, then my husband came to a class with me and informed me that it was miserable and torturous...somehow i figured out he was right!! so now we just go to flow classes at a normal temp :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and I think I'm already obsessed! I read one of your entries where you talked about wanting to make blogging your full time job, and all I can say is I hear you, sister! I agree with all your sentiments, especially the part where you said you've never felt more on track, more perfect for anything else! :) It's so nice to see someone else so passionate and motivated towards their goals. I'm determined to make blogging my career too and that post was really encouraging and helpful! Thank you, Cailen. All the best to you!

As torturous as I thought.. lol. I have really been meaning to try, but my guess is that I wouldn't be a convert either ;) have a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love hot yoga, but I definitely couldn't do it all the time. The increased flexibility and feeling of sweating out toxins is great- and every now and then I definitely love to go. (although did you find that some of the poses are hard to stay in because you start to slip off yourself? so sweaty! :) good for you for trying it out!!
ReplyDeleteBikram Yoga is the BEST. (In my opinion). I always feel so refreshed and good. I had a 30-day trial membership and I went maybe 10 times, but I could see the difference in my body in those 10 days. It was incredible. Now, if only I could afford to go all the time! (It's super expensive here in the city---around $150-200 a month!)
ReplyDeleteHi there! Just stumbled onto your blog through another blog and wanted to say hi! Lovely blog and wonderful pics :) Following you now and would love for you to check out my blog if you have a minute. Happy weekend friend!
