happy hour: spiked shirley

i grew up on shirley temples.  whenever my family would go out to a nice restaurant, my sister and i would order them.  hannah (my sis) never liked the cherry garnish, so i would get two!

now, shirley temples would probably be a little too sweet for my palate (with the sugary lemon-lime soda and lots of grenadine), but there's something so fun about them!  that's why i was delighted when my friend (and one of my yoga teachers) introduced me to her grown-up version of this childhood favorite of mine.

spiked shirley

1-2 shots cherry vodka over ice
topped with club soda
splash of grenadine
garnish with a cherry (or a lime wedge)

the effervescence of the club gives the effect of sprite without the sweetness or calories, and the splash of grenadine adds just enough sweetness....and the drink.  the cherry vodka (obviously) enhances the cherry flavor.  just perfect : )

this girly drink is completely fun, and (bonus) any bartender can easily make it!  (or, of course, you can concoct it yourself.)

have a fantastic weekend.  cheers!

  1. Ooh so yummy! What a great photo of it too! Shirley Temples were my go-to drink while out at restaurants literally until I was 21 haha.

  2. This sounds like it could pack quite a punch :-) This is my first visit to your blog, so I took some extra time to browse through some of your earlier posts. I'm so glad I did that. You've created a great spot for your readers to visit and I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I'll be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

  3. this is my favorite drink! I had one too many last night haha!

  4. honestly this sounds like the perfect drink...perhaps i'd add some orange juice to make it a little more like a shirley temple ;)

that's quite the blog banner you have btw!

  5. oh yum! shirley temples are the taste of my childhood.

  6. Oh lord I would love to try this new version of Shirley Temple! When I travelled all around South America, I tried the most strange and bizarre drinks. I loved one I drunk in Argentina firstly because it was called Diego Maradona. Secondly, because the place that served it was near the buenos aires apartments I had rented so I could go every day!

  7. truthfully this particular seems like an ideal consume... possibly i would then add lemon liquid to create this a bit more just like a shirley forehead.
